Mad Rose Gallery Founder Kerry Madigan’s photography began during the early 1970’s. Kerry’s photographs tell stories while capturing ephemeral moments. Her keen eye is seen through these photographic narratives. In her early years as a photographer, she was fortunate to have great mentors like Time Life photographer Yale Joel and photographer George Tice who was a master printer, National Endowment for the Arts recipient and major figure in black and white fine art photography.

Kerry spent four decades shooting on film and developing the prints in her darkroom.  In her current work Kerry has captures moments using a digital camera and printing with a wide format archival inkjet printer.

Mad Rose Gallery aims to inspire, connect and enrich the lives of individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Through our unwavering dedication to artistic excellence, we aspire to be a catalyst for creative growth, cultural appreciation, education, and social connections.

KERRY MADIGAN

GALLERY FOUNDER

I used to use analog Nikon and Hasselblad cameras and lenses to capture my photographs using B&W or Color 35mm and 120 film stock. This required film processing, drying sleaving, contact proofing, editing (using a light table, magnification Lupe and China-marker) before placing a negative into my enlarger to project its reversed image onto light sensitive photographic paper to calculate the necessary and appropriate exposure time for the print that was then agitated through trays of print developer, stop bath, fixer, perma-wash agent, before being re-washed in water squeegeed and laid to air-dry on large racks.

In August of 2022, I began photographing digitally using a Nikon full frame Z5 mirrorless camera with a NIKKOR 24-70 mm F 2.8 zoom lens..  All but six photographs on display in the gallery were captured using my Nixon Z mirrorless camera. I have included a group of six  smaller analog prints. These were photographed in northern California and on a nature preserve in Long Island. I printed these images in my darkroom using traditional B&W enlarging and printing methods. “Corvus” was photographed in 19__ using a Nikon F3. The negative was created on film. The film negative was scanned to make the print that is on display using a Hasselblad Flextight Film Scanner.
